Welcome to the 161st Infantry site!

This site is dedicated to the history of the 161st Infantry Regiment. The 161st Infantry is a Washington Army National Guard unit that directly traces its lineage to the Territorial Volunteer Militia units initially formed in 1855 – 34 years before Statehood!!

Like all National Guard units, its members are and have been dedicated to providing assistance and protection to the residents of Washington State. The 161st Infantry has responded to floods, forest fires, volcanic eruptions and civil disturbances. While the unit’s primary mission is to respond to orders from the Governor of Washington, they have been called into Federal Service several times during its history. Washington National Guardsmen have responded to every mission with a high degree of professionalism.

We are constantly on the lookout for source documents such as orders, correspondence or personal stories as well as memorabilia and artifacts related to the Regiment’s service. If you have anything, feel free to contact us!

If you know of any reunions or other events, you can contact us and we can post the details here.

Take a look around and let us know what you think!
